This is your chance to join one of the most exciting online retail businesses in Europe, SportPursuit (part of Sportscape Group) as part of our Data Academy Programme!

SportPursuit is a fast paced, entrepreneurial team where self-starters have an opportunity to make a huge impact. We’re a dedicated and passionate team of sports enthusiasts, who work hard to make things happen.

In this 18 month, fixed term, programme you will spend time in three different key functions in the business, our BI & Data, CRM and Tech team.

You will get stuck into the workings of a fast paced business, where you have multiple opportunities to really contribute. This position has a focus on learning key skills required for a successful career, through a mixture of formal training and on-the-job learning. This is a brand new programme and one we’re really excited for at SportPursuit.

Departments involved in the scheme include: BI & Data, CRM and Tech allowing a unique opportunity to gain amazing insight into the technical workings of a successful online retail business.

With a start date in September, we plan to hold a number of varying online assessments followed by a series of video interviews and an in-person assessment day. We will then make our final decision in June, so that you can enjoy the summer before starting with us in September.

Salary: £30,000 per annum.

Departmental Overviews

Data & BI - Learn how we use data to show the right content to the right member, to spend marketing money wisely and effectively, to buy the right products, to find and deal with supply chain issues quickly… and we’re only just getting started! You will have a specific focus on the following:

Building consistent centralised reporting (using our BI tool Mode)
Delivering insight, to help the business answer key commercial questions
Making the business more efficient by automating processes
Supporting on data-driven projects (typically using Python & Machine Learning)

CRM – Learn how we smartly and efficiently create, develop and send email content to our to our 10 million member base, focusing on increasing revenue and growing the business. You will have a specific focus on the following:

Building personalised marketing campaigns
Working on personalisation algorithms in SQL & Python
Developing marketing automation processes in Python
Reporting on campaign performance including AB test reporting and interrogating data for performance insights

Tech – Learn what it takes to be part of a successful Technology team in an ecommerce business. Our team covers the full development process including Product Management, Software Development, Quality Assurance and DevOps. You’ll put the skills and experience learned from your degree and other department rotations to work to help deliver impactful features for our members. For example:

Working on our Systems Infrastructure in Amazon Web Services to build the data platform that underpins the CRM and BI work. You'll be involved in designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, as well as implementing DataOps practices like testing, monitoring, and ensuring data quality
Connecting the business and Tech teams as a Product Owner to define and deliver impactful new features
Joining the Quality Assurance team to test and help ship new features from across the team, including writing automated tests.

Requirements

A bit about you

As a SportPursuit employee we assume you will have a problem-solving mindset, able to respond to challenges with creative solutions. You will be a team player and will be willing to get stuck in, one of our key values at SportPursuit. We do however require a few specifics from you.

To be successful in this role you must have:

A numerate Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent); 2:1 or above. Graduated in the last 3 years
Great written and verbal communication skills, comfortable explaining simple conclusions from complex analysis to anyone across the business
High attention to detail, taking pleasure in making things “right”
A logical and methodical approach to your work life/studies
Strong time management skills with a natural ability to multi task
A 'can do' attitude
Have excellent analytical and numeracy skills
Possess a passion for data and accuracy
Nice to have but not essential
Some experience with SQL, Python or R would be great, although we value a desire to learn more than what you know.
An interest in online retail
A passion for sport

Please note, whilst we have a lovely basecamp in London (by Oval Cricket Ground!) which you are welcome to visit at any time, we’re mostly remote meaning that a big chunk of our work is conducted from home. Don’t worry we have regular office socials, office days and quarterly socials, including our Summer Sports Day and Christmas Curry (yes you heard right, curry - there’s a whole story behind that). Connection is still a big aim for us at SportPursuit but we want to make you aware that some of this will be done over Google Hangouts. This gives you the chance to enjoy #MyPursuit in the evenings and even work abroad for a bit if you’re keen to grab a bit of sun whilst working!
