About the Team and the Role:
The job role is essential to lead the effective delivery and development of Heritage & Culture Warwickshire. The role manages the service’s three collections (archives, local studies and museum), and the staff responsible for their day-to-day care, public access and ongoing development. This post is critical for Heritage & Culture Warwickshire to deliver our ambitious agenda to increase the number and range of people accessing Warwickshire’s rich and varied heritage and experiencing the huge variety of benefits from doing so. It also manages a significant cost centre budget and staff from a number of specialised disciplines and works closely with the Heritage & Culture Service Manager (Development) to ensure effective leadership of all aspects of service delivery.
The responsibility of ensuring collections are managed effectively so that the service is fit for tomorrow and beyond is an exciting challenge. As lead custodian for our nationally significant collections, each collection brings a completely different set of challenges, with teams spread across several locations. However, if you have a strong passion for heritage and culture, the ability to link it to council priorities and our communities’ needs and can strongly advocate for how heritage and culture support these priorities and needs, the role will give you both personal and professional pride.
An experienced and inspirational manager, you’ll be creative in your approach, utilising new technology and solutions and getting the best out of people. You will play a critical role in developing and delivering plans for new archives long-term storage as part of an important capital scheme. We’re also looking for real strength of personality: to not only astutely manage resources but move the service forward by bringing the best out of colleagues, partners and stakeholders. And the end result will always be focused on making things better for users – something you’ll have a big say about as part of the Local Services Management Team.
Key Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have a postgraduate qualification in archive administration or museum studies. They will also have considerable experience of working in an archive or museum at a professional level (at least five years) and familiarity with archive, museum and digital preservation systems is essential. Some knowledge of the museum and archive accreditation schemes would also be beneficial. Most importantly we are looking for an inclusive and collaborative leader to build a team who can work effectively together to deliver a high-quality service.
