About the Team
The Warwickshire Energy and Environment team is looking for a highly motivated and knowledgeable Environmental and Energy Officer to join their dedicated team on a full-time, permanent basis. This role offers a competitive salary range of £30,060-£32,654 and is based at Shire Hall in Warwick.
About the Role
As an Environmental and Energy Officer, you will play a key role in ensuring that Warwickshire County Council (WCC) maintains and continuously improves its environmental management system to meet all statutory, regulatory, and compliance requirements. You will be instrumental in helping the Council reduce its environmental footprint, ensuring its activities align with sustainability goals and legal obligations.

You will work closely with internal teams, external stakeholders, and partner organisations to drive forward initiatives that support climate change mitigation, resource efficiency, and sustainable development across Warwickshire.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and monitor the environmental management system (EMS) to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and regulations.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on environmental policies, sustainability initiatives, and energy efficiency measures to Council departments and stakeholders.
- Conduct environmental audits and risk assessments, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.
- Support the Council’s climate change and carbon reduction commitments, including the development of strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
- Monitor energy usage, waste management, and resource consumption, recommending practical solutions to improve efficiency and sustainability.
- Stay informed on emerging environmental and energy trends, policies, and regulations, ensuring that WCC remains proactive in responding to new challenges and opportunities.
- Work collaboratively with other local authorities, community groups, and businesses to promote sustainable practices and environmental awareness.
- Assist in the preparation of reports, funding applications, and policy documents related to environmental sustainability and energy management.
About You
- The ideal candidate will be a passionate and proactive environmental professional with:
- A strong understanding of environmental legislation, compliance requirements, and sustainability best practices.
- Experience in environmental management, energy efficiency, or sustainability within a public or private sector organisation.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret data and make informed recommendations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to influence, educate, and inspire change.
- A relevant degree or professional qualification in environmental science, sustainability, energy management, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
